چکیده

Four of the major HS-GC analyses that are typically performed at breweries are described here (Table 1). The first, and most important, is monitoring for vicinal diketones (VDK) in the beer, which include 2,3-butanedione (diacetyl) and 2,3-pentanedione. VDK are considered extremely important since they are known to affect the taste of the beer. These components produce a butterlike flavor and are also considered non-beneficial at high levels. Many heavier beers, such as European beers, have VDK at higher levels than the lighter beers typically produced in the U.S. and they still maintain good flavor. VDK concentrations typically range from 1-50 ppb in lighter beers, but they can reach several hundred ppb in darker beers.

A Generic Method for the Analysis of Residual Solvents in Pharmaceuticals Using Static Headspace-GC-FID/MS

The determination of residual solvents in pharmaceuticals is one of the most important gas chromatography (GC) applications in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) in the pharmaceutical industry. Sample introduction is normally done using static headspace (SHS). In routine QC, GC with flame ionization detection (FID) is preferred, while mass spectrometry (MS) can be used for screening and ...

Characterization of volatile organic compounds and odors by in-vivo sampling of beef cattle rumen gas, by solid-phase microextraction, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-olfactometry.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors in cattle rumen gas have been characterized by in-vivo headspace sampling by solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-olfactometry (GC-MS-O). A novel device enabling headspace SPME (HS-SPME) sampling through a cannula was designed, refined, and used to collect rumen gas samples from steers. A Carboxen-pol...

Rapid and Simultaneous Determination of Acetone, Butanol and Ethanol in Butanol Fermentation Broth by Full Evaporation Headspace Gas Chromatography

A gas chromatography (GC) method including a full evaporation headspace (FE-HS) sampling technique was developed for rapidly and simultaneously measuring volatile products for acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation. In this method, a small volume (<50 μL) of fermentation broth was directly injected into a sealed headspace sample vial (22 mL) and the mass transfer of acetone-butanol-ethanol ...

Analysis of flavor volatiles of some Iranian rice cultivars by SPME-GC-MS

A combined gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) with headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) method has been employed for the analysis of the flavor volatiles of some Iranian rice cultivars (Domsiah, Deylamani, Hashemi, Shirodi and Tarom). The samples were grown in different cities of Mazandaran province. The sampling procedure and chromatographic conditions were same for all sa...

Screening for γ-Nonalactone in the Headspace of Freshly Cooked Non-scented Rice Using SPME/GC-O and

The determination of γ-nonalactone as one of the important odor-active compounds in freshly cooked non-scented rice is reported. It was evaluated by gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) analysis and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis in the headspace above the freshly cooked non-scented rice samples extracted by using a modified headspace solid-phase microextr...
